With Windows 8.1 I had separate drivers for all three controllers. With Windows 10 I just have the Standard SATA AHCI driver installed and the Microsoft Storage Spaces Controller installed in the device manager. Everything seems to run fine. Microsoft Windows contains three system-supplied storage port drivers: SCSI Port Driver (Scsiport.sys) Storport Driver. Each port driver communicates with a set of vendor-supplied storage miniport drivers and supplies a set of support routines for the miniport drivers to call.

Microsoft Storage Spaces Controller Driver Updates

I've just built a new machine as:
Gigabyte Z170N-WIFI (mITX)
Intel 6700K
32GB (2x16GB)
Samsung 850 EVO 2.5' SATA on SATA port1
Windows 10 Pro build 1607, clean install, not a free upgrade.
This machine will eventually have a pair of WD Black 2TB in RAID1, through SATA ports 2 and 3, for data so I set the EFI 'SATA Configuration' to RAID before installing the O/S. 'CSM Compatibility' is disabled in EFI as there will be no legacy components or software needing the old style BIOS, and 'Windows 8/10 Features' mode is enabled, without the 'WHQL only' additional setting (for GPT and other EFI resources). The RAID pair will not be installed until I have resolved this issue.
I installed all the relevant drivers from the motherboard disc and then used WinUpdate and Intel's update tool to ensure they are the current ones. I then started installing useful tools including Samsung Magician v4.5 from the disc that came with the 850 EVO and it reported it was the latest version. Doubting this, I checked the Samsung website and found v4.9.7 so I installed that one on top after v4.5 showed an error. Both of these versions report that AHCI is not enabled. I have built machines previously with this kind of setup over the last 3 years (boot SSD and RAID1 storage) using various brands of SSD and never encountered this before. Device Manager shows 'Intel Chipset SATA RAID Controller' and 'Microsoft Storage Spaces Controller' under 'Storage Controllers'. There is no 'IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers' section. 'AS SSD' benchmark says 'iaStorA' (intel AHCI driver) is OK and DeleteDisableNotify=0 is reported by fsutil query in cmd implying TRIM is enabled and working.
Is this a bug in Magician (both versions) that fails to detect AHCI under RAID or have I missed something?
